This past weekend marked the 37th annual mermaid parade in Coney Island, New York. The Mermaid Parade traditionally takes place on the Saturday closest to the Summer solstice, June 21, regardless of weather.
This is my 3rd mermaid parade to photo and has become one of my favorites , although it’s not a typical parade and it’s mainly people dressing up in some type of sea costume and having a good time . Unfortunately for me it is the most difficult to get to. Coney Island is about an hour subway trip from Manhattan as well as my hour drive to manhattan to begin with .
This years ” King and Queen ” were Arlo Guthrie and his wife .
